Dust Mite Tips

Kelly's World Famous Takes on 300 Million Year Old Arachnids

Recent studies have indicated that the notorious Dust Mites may have met their match when it comes to Kelly's World Famous Oil of Eucalyptus. Dust Mites are small microscopic arachnids, members of the spider and tick family. There are approximately 40,000 Dust Mites in an ounce of household dust. These spidery creatures live off the dead skin that fall off of our bodies at a rate of about 50 million cells or so per day, giving our eight legged friends plenty to feast on. The problem, however, is that each Dust Mite produces about twenty fecal pellets per day; these are so small that they can actually linger in the air for about eight hours. When an allergy sufferer breathes in these pollutants it can trigger asthma, watery eyes, eczema, runny noses and a host of other allergic conditions. In fact, there are about two million of these critters in an average double bed. A combination of Dust Mites, both dead and alive, and their fecal material can make up one tenth of the weight of a 6-year-old pillow. These little critters have been around for 300 million years, so complete eradication and extinction is unlikely. So what can the 15 million Americans who suffer from Dust Mite allergies do? Dust Mites have sticky feet that cling to surfaces and cannot be vacuumed up, and just regular washing will not get rid of them either. So in one of the most interesting breakthroughs of late in controlling allergic reactions caused by Dust Mites was a study done at the University of Sydney in Australia utilizing eucalyptus oil when washing wool, sheets or linens. The study indicated that wool washed with a mixture of detergent and eucalyptus oil actually eliminated up to 95% of the Dust Mites in the wool. The amazing thing is that they were able to do this at a lower temperature, thus preserving the integrity of the fabric.

Now you can utilize Kelly's World Famous Oil of Eucalyptus yourself and enjoy a better quality of life. Here is a recipe for using Kelly's World Famous Oil of Eucalyptus in the wash. This is the same one I use at home.

When you strip the bedding off the mattress, just spray a couple of times on a towel and wipe down the mattress. Then, place all the bedding in the washing machine and fill the machine with water. Use 2 capfuls of Kelly's World Famous to a laundry load, using the regular amount of laundry detergent. Agitate briefly, stop the machine, let soak for 30 minutes, and continue the laundry cycle.
